Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has urged Nigerian youths to actively engage in the political process, emphasizing that power is not freely given but must be earnestly pursued.
Speaking at a national conference on strengthening democracy in Abuja, organized by the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development, Amaechi highlighted the competitive nature of Nigerian politics and the necessity for citizens to be vigilant in defending their electoral choices.
Reflecting on the 2015 presidential election, Amaechi noted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victory over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to their readiness to protect their mandate.
He recounted that former President Goodluck Jonathan conceded defeat only after realizing that APC leaders were prepared to go to great lengths to uphold their electoral success.
