In the days leading up to his untimely passing, renowned merengue singer Rubby Pérez expressed his excitement about returning to the Dominican Republic. During a performance at La Nueva España restaurant in New York City, Pérez shared with fans his enthusiasm for traveling back home, looking forward to escaping the cold weather.
Tragically, Pérez passed away when the roof of the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo collapsed during his performance on April 8, 2025. The disaster claimed the lives of at least 124 individuals, including Pérez and former Major League Baseball players Octavio Dotel and Tony Blanco.
