Despite an ongoing FIFA ban, the Russian Football Union (RFU) has announced that the Russian national team will play a friendly match against Nigeria’s Super Eagles on June 6, 2025. The match is scheduled to take place in Russia, though the specific venue and kick-off time have yet to be confirmed.
Russia has been suspended from FIFA and UEFA competitions since 2022 due to the country’s invasion of Ukraine. However, the Russian national team has continued to arrange friendly matches with various countries. The upcoming fixture against Nigeria is part of a series of friendlies planned by the RFU, which also includes matches against Zambia in March and Belarus on June 10.
As of now, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has not released an official statement confirming the friendly match against Russia. If the match proceeds as planned, it will mark the first-ever senior-level meeting between the two nations’ football teams.
