French President Emmanuel Macron has called on Russia to accept a proposed 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, emphasizing the need to halt ongoing hostilities. Macron discussed this proposal with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, highlighting France’s support for Ukraine’s diplomatic efforts.
Zelenskyy, in his evening address, mentioned that their discussions focused on diplomatic initiatives, the feasibility of a ceasefire, and the technical aspects of its monitoring. He stressed that Ukraine has received clear backing from France in these endeavors.
The ceasefire proposal, backed by the United States and Ukraine, aims to establish a temporary halt to the conflict, creating a conducive environment for further peace negotiations. However, Russia’s response has been hesitant, with President Vladimir Putin setting stringent conditions for the truce, leading to concerns about the proposal’s viability.
In response to these developments, Ukraine has begun assembling a team to develop monitoring mechanisms for the potential ceasefire, acknowledging the complexity of establishing effective oversight processes.
