Renowned fashion designer Hope Georgewill, CEO of HMG Couture, was tragically killed by suspected sea pirates in Rivers State. On March 26, 2025, while traveling from Elem-Kalabari to Port Harcourt, Georgewill and two others were intercepted along the New Calabar River in Degema Local Government Area.
The assailants demanded a ransom of ₦10 million for their release. Despite efforts to secure their freedom, Georgewill was killed on March 28, 2025.
His death has sparked outrage and grief within the fashion community and the broader public. Georgewill was celebrated for his creativity and craftsmanship, making significant contributions to Port Harcourt’s fashion scene.
