In the early hours of December 30, 2024, two pastors from the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria (Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa A Nigeria, EYN) were abducted by armed assailants in Billa-Malabu, Fufore Local Government Area, Adamawa State.
The victims, identified as Pastor Ishaku D. Chiwar and Reverend James Kwayam, were taken from their homes in the Hayin-Gada neighborhood around 2:00 am.
The Adamawa State Police Command has condemned the unprovoked kidnapping and has deployed its anti-kidnapping unit to pursue the perpetrators and ensure the safe rescue of the abducted clerics.
As of now, the kidnappers have not contacted the victims’ families or the church to make any ransom demands, leaving their motives unclear.
The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, has mobilized operational and manpower resources to apprehend the kidnappers and bring them to justice.
The EYN community has expressed deep concern over the incident, with President Reverend Daniel Mbaya calling for prayers for the safe and speedy release of the abducted pastors.
This incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region, particularly targeting religious leaders who are considered critical stakeholders in community policing and peacebuilding efforts.
