Security operatives in Anambra State have successfully rescued a kidnapped Catholic priest, Rev. Father Cyril Okafor, within 24 hours of his abduction. Father Okafor was reportedly kidnapped on Tuesday afternoon around the Holy Ghost Adoration Centre in Igboukwu, Anambra State.
Following his abduction, he was moved to various locations, including Enugu and Nteje, before being brought to an abandoned building in Otuocha, Umueri. The Umueri community vigilante team intercepted one of the kidnappers, who led them to the building where Father Okafor was held. The kidnappers fled during the rescue operation, and a Highlander SUV used by the abductors was recovered.
In a separate incident, the Anambra State Police Command, through its special squad team, rescued a kidnapped Catholic priest and three other hostages unhurt. The operation involved a coordinated raid on the insurgents’ camp at Ogbunka in Orumba South Local Government Area.
Three suspects were arrested, and nine vehicles, three pump-action guns, stolen camouflage uniforms, and a Biafra flag were recovered. The victims were all kidnapped in October, and the operation followed months of diligent intelligence gathering.
