Segun Sowunmi, a prominent member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s decision to appoint Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, as Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Sowunmi argues that this move is exacerbating the party’s internal crisis, pointing out that such an appointment should have been discussed with PDP leaders.
He emphasized that Tinubu’s action of appointing a former party member like Wike without consulting the opposition party was a significant misstep, which has further complicated matters for the PDP.
Sowunmi likened this to the approach taken by former President Obasanjo, who consulted his party before forming a government of national unity.
Sowunmi believes that if Tinubu truly wanted to resolve the crisis, he should reverse the appointment, suggesting that Wike’s position in the government only fuels division within the PDP.
He expressed confidence, however, that despite these challenges, the PDP will not collapse and can regroup to challenge for power again.
