The Nigerian Senate has appointed Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (APC, Abia-North) as the inaugural Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South-East Development Commission (SEDC). This announcement was made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during the plenary session on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
Prior to this appointment, Senator Kalu, a former Governor of Abia State, served as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatisation. In his new role, he will oversee the SEDC’s mandate, which includes addressing civil restitution, combating erosion, restoring security, and enhancing infrastructure in the South-East region.
Additionally, Senator Ken Eze (Ebonyi Central) has been appointed as the Vice Chairman of the committee. The Senate President noted that other committee members will be announced in due course.
