A recent Emerson College poll has revealed that 41% of young voters aged 18-29 consider the alleged murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson by Luigi Mangione to be “acceptable.”
This includes 24% who find it somewhat acceptable and 17% who find it completely acceptable. The poll also indicates a partisan divide, with 22% of Democrats, 12% of Republicans, and 16% of independents viewing Mangione’s actions as acceptable.
The incident has sparked disturbing reactions among some young individuals, including themed dance parties in Mangione’s honor, the creation of a legal defense fund for him, and public praise from a University of Pennsylvania professor.
Additionally, “wanted” posters targeting healthcare executives have appeared in Manhattan.
Mangione, 26, has been indicted on charges of murder as an act of terrorism for the assassination of Brian Thompson outside the Hilton in Midtown Manhattan on December 4.
He faces first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder, among other charges. Authorities describe the murder as a calculated act of terror designed to provoke fear.
President-elect Donald Trump has condemned those supporting Mangione, labeling it “a sickness.”
