Soludo Enforces Ban on Loud Preaching in Anambra Markets

N500,000 Penalty for Loud Preaching in Anambra Markets

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has implemented a ban on loud preaching in public spaces, particularly within markets, to address noise pollution concerns. Violators of this directive will face a fine of ₦500,000.

In a widely circulated video, Governor Soludo confronted a preacher in a market, emphasizing that while freedom of religion is respected, public spaces like markets are not appropriate venues for loud religious activities. He stated, “If you want to preach, go to your church and preach. You can’t come to the open market to disturb others in the name of preaching.”

This measure aims to create a more conducive environment for traders and customers by reducing excessive noise levels in marketplaces. The state government has expressed its commitment to enforcing this regulation to ensure public spaces are free from disturbances.
