Students Protest Against Rising Kidnapping Cases in Ondo

Ondo State Students Demand Action on Kidnapping Surge

Students from various tertiary institutions in Ondo State have taken to the streets of Akure to protest the escalating incidents of kidnappings and other criminal activities affecting their communities. Led by Oluwarotimi Joshua, the chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) South West, the demonstrators carried placards with inscriptions demanding urgent action from the government to address the growing threats to their safety.

The protesters accused the state government of neglecting their safety and demanded sincere efforts to tackle the worsening security situation. They highlighted the deteriorating conditions of tertiary institutions, the lack of student-friendly policies, and the insecurity affecting students, particularly those undergoing the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme.

Attempts by the state commissioner of police, Wilfred Afolabi, to disperse the protesters and clear the roadblocks were met with resistance, indicating the depth of the students’ frustration.

This protest underscores the urgent need for the Ondo State government and security agencies to implement effective measures to ensure the safety and well-being of students and residents in the state.
