The Sudanese army has recaptured the Presidential Palace in Khartoum from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), marking a significant development in the ongoing civil war. Videos circulating on social media depict soldiers inside the partially destroyed palace, which previously served as the government’s seat and holds cultural significance.
Information Minister Khaled al-Aiser confirmed the army’s success, stating that this victory represents a major battlefield gain. Despite this, fighting continues in the capital, and the RSF maintains control over significant territories, including parts of Darfur and Khartoum International Airport.
The conflict, which began in April 2023 following disputes over the RSF’s integration into national forces, has resulted in over 28,000 deaths and a severe humanitarian crisis affecting millions.
