Sultan Urges Muslims to Seek New Moon on Friday

New Moon Sightings: Sultan’s Call to the Muslim Community

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on Muslims across Nigeria to look for the new moon of Ramadan 1446 AH on Friday, February 28, 2025. This announcement was made through a statement by Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs of the Sultanate Council.

Muslims are encouraged to report any sightings of the new moon to their nearest district or village head. These reports will then be communicated to the Sultan for a formal announcement. The sighting of the new moon signifies the commencement of Ramadan, a holy month dedicated to fasting, prayer, and reflection in Islam.
