Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has expressed that winning the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title is his ultimate ambition. Reflecting on his previous AFCON experiences, he noted, “I’ve been there three times now: bronze medal, silver medal, but I haven’t had the chance to win it, so that’s my ultimate goal.” Troost-Ekong emphasized the significance of this achievement for himself and for aspiring footballers across Nigeria and Africa.
In the 2023 AFCON held in Côte d’Ivoire, Troost-Ekong delivered an outstanding performance, scoring three goals and earning the Player of the Tournament award. Despite his efforts, Nigeria fell short in the final, losing 2-1 to the host nation.
Looking ahead, Troost-Ekong is determined to lead the Super Eagles to victory in the upcoming AFCON tournament in Morocco in 2025, aiming to secure the coveted title for Nigeria
