Calvin Bassey: NFF’s Stand Against Racism

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has condemned the racist and homophobic abuse directed at Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey following Fulham’s FA Cup victory over Manchester United on Sunday. Bassey scored the opening goal in the match, which ended 1-1, with Fulham advancing after a penalty shootout.

In a statement, the NFF expressed unwavering support for Bassey, emphasizing their commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all players, both on and off the field.

Fulham Football Club also issued a statement condemning the abuse, labeling it as “abhorrent behavior” that has no place in football or society. The club affirmed its full support for Bassey and is collaborating with relevant authorities to identify and take action against the perpetrators.

The Premier League echoed these sentiments, stating that they are working with social media companies and authorities to ensure individuals found guilty of discrimination face the strongest possible consequences.
