The family of five-year-old Memunah Abdulrahman is urgently seeking public assistance following her abduction by a suspected kidnapper in Lagos. Memunah was taken from her residence, prompting her family’s appeal for information leading to her safe return.
In a similar incident, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command successfully rescued five-year-old Miracle Yakubu in January 2025. Miracle was found with the alleged abductor, Nawaisi Abdullahi, near the Jabi Expressway in Abuja. The police acted on a tip-off and reunited Miracle with her family.
These incidents highlight ongoing concerns about child abductions in Nigeria. In 2014, a woman was apprehended in Lagos with the lifeless body of a five-year-old child, sparking public outrage and discussions about child safety.
The case of Hanifa Abubakar in Kano State further underscores the gravity of the issue. Hanifa, a five-year-old girl, was abducted and murdered by her school proprietor and his accomplice in early 2022. The suspects were arrested, and investigations revealed that Hanifa was killed after her family failed to pay the demanded ransom.
