Taraba Operations: 23 Bandits Surrender, One Killed

Security Forces in Taraba: Bandits Surrender and Arms Seized

On February 2, 2025, troops from the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade and Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) conducted a successful operation in Angwan Bala, Kambari, in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State. Acting on intelligence about bandit activities in the area, the troops stormed a notorious hideout.

Operation Highlights:

  • Bandits Surrendered: 23 individuals (19 males and 4 females) surrendered to the military after an intense operation.
  • Bandit Neutralized: One bandit was killed during an exchange of gunfire.
  • Arms Recovered: A significant cache of weapons was seized, including:
    • 4 AK-47 rifles
    • 5 AK-47 magazines
    • 80 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition
    • English-made pistols and locally fabricated guns
    • Daggers, knives, and cutlasses
    • 16 motorcycles, likely used for swift attacks and movement.

Preliminary investigations revealed the bandits had reportedly paid ₦1.5 million to a local chief in Amar village to establish their camp in the area.

Military Response: Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa praised the troops’ efforts and stressed the importance of local community cooperation in tackling banditry. He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to securing the region.
