TCN Crackdown: 6 Suspected Vandals Arrested in Rivers State

Rivers State Alert: TCN Nabs Six for Vandalism Activities

he Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has arrested six individuals suspected of vandalizing its power transmission towers in Rivers State.

This development was announced by Emmanuel Anyaegbulem, TCN’s General Manager for the Port Harcourt Region, during a press briefing in Port Harcourt.

Anyaegbulem highlighted a significant incident on July 29, 2024, where 20 towers along the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132KV lines were destroyed, disrupting power supply to Bayelsa State for approximately four months.

He explained that vandals had removed essential components from the towers, selling them as scrap metal, which compromised the structural integrity of the towers and led to their collapse.

The TCN has since restored the affected towers and resumed power transmission to the impacted areas. Anyaegbulem emphasized the company’s commitment to enhancing the reliability of Nigeria’s power grid and called for increased community support to protect critical infrastructure from such acts of vandalism.

In addition to the recent arrests, Anyaegbulem noted that TCN has secured four convictions related to vandalism within its jurisdiction, which includes Rivers, Bayelsa, Imo, Abia, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities to help safeguard the nation’s power infrastructure.
