Texas Lawmaker Initiates State Capitol Partnership on Legislative Session Day 1

Historic Day at Texas Capitol: Lawmaker Calls for Strategic Partnership

On January 14, 2025, Texas State Representative Venton Jones, a Democrat from Dallas, marked the beginning of his second term by proposing to his longtime partner, Gregory Scott Jr., at the Texas State Capitol in Austin.

This heartfelt moment occurred shortly after Jones was sworn in, with family, friends, and colleagues present to witness the proposal.

Jones, one of the first Black gay men to serve in the Texas legislature, emphasized the significance of this gesture, stating, “In a time when our love and our very existence are challenged, often in the halls of this very building, this moment is a reminder that love conquers all.”
