Thai Woman Detained at Lagos Airport for Drug Smuggling

Arrest of Thai National at Lagos Airport Over Drug Trafficking

On February 20, 2025, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested a 24-year-old Thai woman, Ms. Pattaphi Wimonnat, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos. She was apprehended during the inward clearance of passengers on a Qatar Airways flight from Thailand via Doha.

Upon inspection, officials discovered 43 parcels of Canadian Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, weighing 46.60 kilograms concealed in her luggage. Ms. Wimonnat confessed to being hired by an international drug cartel, which had promised her a payment of $3,000 upon successful delivery of the illicit consignment in Nigeria.

In a related development, NDLEA operatives intercepted 68 parcels of Ghanaian Loud, totaling 42.2 kilograms, concealed within the walls of crated cartons destined for London, UK. This seizure occurred at the export shed of the Lagos airport on February 21, 2025.

These operations underscore the NDLEA’s ongoing commitment to combating drug trafficking and dismantling international drug syndicates operating within and targeting Nigeria.
