President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the living standards of many Nigerians before the removal of the fuel subsidy as a “fake good life” that was unsustainable and could have led to national economic collapse.
He explained that the subsidy removal, alongside other economic reforms like exchange rate unification, was a tough but necessary decision aimed at averting a crisis and ensuring a more stable future for the country.
Tinubu emphasized that while the reforms caused immediate hardships, such as higher living costs, they were designed to free up resources for critical sectors like education, infrastructure, and healthcare.
He expressed optimism that these measures would yield long-term benefits and transform Nigeria into a production-oriented economy
