Tinubu’s 2027 Bid: A Return to Northern Leadership

Ganduje Predicts Power Shift After Tinubu’s Second Term

Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has affirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will seek re-election in 2027, completing two consecutive terms in office. Ganduje emphasized that, following Tinubu’s tenure, the presidency will rotate back to the northern region of Nigeria in 2031.

Addressing members of the Tinubu Northern Youth Forum at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, Ganduje stated:

“When a leader from the northern part of this country was in office for eight years, we advocated that the next president in our party should come from the South. Luckily enough, we worked very hard with the cooperation of Nigerians. Our president has come from the South and is going, inshallah, for a second term in 2027. And then after that, it will be the turn of the northern part of this country.”

This statement underscores the APC’s commitment to the North-South power rotation agreement, aiming to maintain political balance and unity within the country.

Ganduje’s remarks also come in response to recent comments by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who cautioned that the North might withdraw its support for President Tinubu in 2027, similar to the region’s stance in the 2015 elections. El-Rufai expressed concerns about the current political dynamics within the APC and the potential implications for future elections.

In contrast, Ganduje dismissed the notion of a northern presidency in 2027 as “daydreaming,” reaffirming the party’s dedication to the established zoning arrangement. He also lauded President Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as a “reformer” and “visionary leader” focused on implementing necessary reforms for Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
