On March 24, 2025, Dr. Gerhardt Konig, a 46-year-old anesthesiologist from Maui, was arrested for allegedly attempting to murder his wife, 36-year-old nuclear engineer Arielle Konig, at the Pali Lookout in Oahu, Hawaii. The incident reportedly began when Arielle declined to take a photo with her husband.
According to police reports, Dr. Konig attempted to push his wife off the scenic trail and struck her in the head with a rock. He also allegedly tried to inject her with substances using two syringes, though the contents have not been disclosed.
Arielle sustained severe head and facial injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she remains in critical condition. Dr. Konig was apprehended near the Pali Highway after a brief foot chase by Honolulu police.
Following his arrest, Dr. Konig has been suspended from his position at Maui Health, where he worked as an independent contractor. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are seeking additional information from the public.
