On Saturday, March 1, 2025, suspected armed herdsmen attacked the Tse Ugema Chul, Mbakesa, and Ugbaam communities in Ukum Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State, resulting in the deaths of at least six individuals. The assault occurred around 7 p.m., leaving several others injured and many residents unaccounted for.
The affected communities are located near the Zaki Biam International Yam Market, a significant economic hub in the region. Reports indicate that the assailants ambushed local youths, leading to multiple fatalities. Despite alerts to nearby soldiers stationed at Wuaze village, the troops reportedly retreated upon encountering the armed herdsmen.
This incident is part of a series of attacks in Benue State, which has been grappling with violence and insecurity in recent times. The state has experienced incessant attacks over the past decade, with similar incidents reported in other communities.
As of now, police authorities have yet to respond to the latest incident. The community continues to search for the missing residents while mourning the loss of those killed in the attack.
