A tragic head-on collision between a bus and a haulage truck near Beitbridge, Zimbabwe, has resulted in the deaths of 24 individuals. The accident occurred on Thursday morning, February 13, 2025, at a tollgate near the southern border town.
Seventeen people died at the scene, while seven others succumbed to their injuries after being transported to a hospital in Beitbridge. Additionally, more than 30 individuals sustained injuries, with at least a dozen reported in critical condition.
Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that the bus, operated by Urban Connect and carrying 65 passengers, was attempting to overtake another vehicle when it collided head-on with an Auro Transport haulage truck. The truck had four occupants at the time of the accident.
In response to the tragedy, President Emmerson Mnangagwa expressed his sorrow, declaring the incident a national disaster and stating that the government will cover funeral and burial expenses. He urged drivers to exercise extreme caution on the roads
