Students’ Vacation Turns Tragic: Dismembered Bodies Found

The dismembered bodies of nine students from Tlaxcala, aged between 19 and 30, were discovered near a highway in San José Miahuatlán, on the border of the Mexican states of Puebla and Oaxaca. The victims, four women and five men, had been missing since February 27, 2025, after embarking on a vacation to the beaches in Oaxaca.

Their remains were found in the trunk of an abandoned vehicle and beneath a blood-stained tarp. Additionally, a bag containing eight pairs of severed hands was located at the scene. All the bodies bore bullet wounds and signs of torture.

Surveillance footage from February 24 captured the group’s vehicle traveling along the Atlixcayotl highway near Atlixco, approximately 90 miles west of the discovery site. The Attorney General’s Offices of Puebla, Tlaxcala, and Oaxaca are collaborating on the investigation, but no suspects have been identified at this time.

This tragic event underscores the ongoing violence in Mexico, which recorded 30,000 murders in 2023, many linked to drug-related activities.
