In a tragic incident on Sunday night, February 16, 2025, a mother and her two children lost their lives in a fire outbreak at Rainbow Street, Onipakala Junction, off Adeyemi Road, in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State. The victims, identified as a petty trader and her children—16-year-old Bukola and 11-year-old Ifeoluwa—were reportedly asleep when the fire engulfed their residence, leaving them trapped and resulting in fatalities.
Efforts by neighbors to rescue the family were unsuccessful. Disturbingly, attempts to contact the local fire service were met with challenges; responders allegedly cited a lack of water and necessary chemicals, and subsequently became unreachable.
The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident, stating that the victims’ remains have been deposited at the morgue.
