Raging Fire in FCT Destroys Apartments, Residents in Tears

On the morning of January 31, 2025, a devastating fire broke out at the Specialist Quarters in the New Kutunku area of Gwagwalada, within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The blaze completely destroyed an apartment belonging to a woman identified as Mrs. Gloria. At the time of the incident, she had just returned from taking her children to school and was met with the sight of her home engulfed in flames. Overwhelmed by the loss, Mrs. Gloria was seen weeping uncontrollably.

Neighbors reported that the fire started around 7:37 am. One neighbor, Mrs. Rebecca Musa, was washing clothes at the backyard when she noticed thick smoke emanating from Mrs. Gloria’s apartment. She immediately raised an alarm, but many neighbors had already left for work, limiting immediate assistance. Despite efforts to call for help, the fire spread rapidly, consuming the entire apartment before it could be contained.

Another resident, Gabriel, speculated that the fire might have been caused by an electrical fault. He noted that the design of the quarters, with buildings attached to each other, facilitated the rapid spread of the fire to eight other apartments. Mrs. Gloria’s apartment was the most affected, with all her valuables destroyed, leaving her and her family stranded.
