On March 5, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in the Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos State, resulting in the death of a six-year-old girl. According to the girl’s father, Nnamdi Ugorji, officers from the Moshalashi Police Station were pursuing a suspect when their patrol vehicle struck his daughter near the Ecobank roundabout. Ugorji recounted that his daughter and her siblings had gone to the bank to withdraw money from an ATM, and while returning, the speeding police vehicle hit his daughter, leading to her death.
Ugorji further alleged that the police attempted to cover up the incident by falsely claiming that their vehicle had somersaulted. He called on authorities, including President Bola Tinubu and the Inspector-General of Police, to intervene and ensure justice for his daughter.
In response to the incident, the Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, expressed sympathy for the bereaved family. However, he disputed Ugorji’s account, stating that it was a commercial bus, not a police vehicle, that fatally struck the child.
