In Katsina State, Nigerian police successfully thwarted a kidnap attempt involving 18 passengers aboard a Katsina State Transport Authority bus traveling through the Kankara area.
Armed bandits attacked the bus on Thursday, but swift action by a joint security team, including the police, military, and community watch members, led to the rescue of 14 passengers after an intense gun battle.
Unfortunately, one person was reported dead during the confrontation. Efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the four remaining abducted individuals.
This incident highlights ongoing challenges with banditry and insecurity in northern Nigeria, despite increased security measures.
The authorities continue to urge residents to report suspicious activities to aid in combatting these crimes.
