Four officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been confirmed dead following an ambush by Boko Haram insurgents in Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State.
The attack, which occurred on November 18, 2024, targeted a convoy that was escorting expatriates from a mining site.
The team, tasked with inspecting National Grid installations, was ambushed by over 200 heavily armed insurgents.
Despite being outnumbered, the NSCDC operatives reportedly fought back, killing over 50 insurgents during the gunfight.
However, one officer remains missing, while two others managed to escape unharmed. Several personnel also sustained injuries and are receiving medical care.
The NSCDC Commandant General expressed condolences to the bereaved families and praised the bravery of the operatives in the face of overwhelming odds.
