Ogun Security Incident: Man Mistaken for Thief Burned by Guards
In a tragic incident in Ogun State, Nigeria, two security guards, Segun Sodiya and Segun Abatan, have been arrested for allegedly setting ablaze a 44-year-old man, Basiru Aliu, whom they mistakenly identified as a thief.
The incident occurred in the Agura Sabo area of Sagamu, where Aliu was assisting his employer, Fatai Ifekoya, in moving belongings to a new residence in the Ijokun area around 7 a.m. on Monday.
While performing this task, Aliu was confronted by the security guards, who accused him of theft. They allegedly doused him with a flammable substance and set him on fire.
The Ogun State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrests and stated that the suspects would face charges of attempted murder.
She emphasized the importance of reporting suspicious activities to the police rather than resorting to violence, noting that such actions are both unlawful and dangerously misguided.
