A tragic road accident in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, has claimed the lives of three police officers and a female suspect.
The incident occurred on Thursday when a trailer driver, reportedly speeding, lost control and crossed the median, colliding with the police van transporting the officers and the suspect.
The officers, part of the Monitoring Unit of the Ondo State Police Command, were en route from Akure to Ore to apprehend the suspect.
The collision resulted in the immediate deaths of the three officers and the female suspect. Another officer sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State, Samuel Ibitoye, attributed the accident to the trailer driver’s excessive speed. The deceased have been taken to the mortuary at the State Hospital in Ore.
Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, confirmed the incident, describing it as unfortunate and extending condolences to the families of the deceased officers. She also noted that an investigation into the accident has commenced.
