President Donald Trump has publicly criticized his official portrait displayed in the Colorado State Capitol, describing it as “purposely distorted” and “truly the worst.” He has called on Governor Jared Polis to remove the painting, stating that he would prefer no portrait over the current depiction.
The portrait, created by artist Sarah Boardman, was unveiled in 2019 alongside other presidential portraits. Trump contrasted his portrait with that of former President Barack Obama, also painted by Boardman, suggesting that her artistic quality has declined over time.
In response, a spokesperson for Governor Polis expressed surprise at the president’s interest in the State Capitol’s artwork and indicated openness to improving the visitor experience.
