Trump Shuts Down Migrant Appointment App: What It Means Minutes After Taking Office

Migrant Appointment App Closed: Trump’s First Act as President

Minutes after his inauguration on January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump ordered the immediate shutdown of the CBP One app, a mobile application developed during the previous administration to facilitate legal entry into the United States for migrants. This app had been instrumental in processing over 900,000 migrant entries since its launch in 2023.

The abrupt termination of the app led to widespread dismay among migrants in Mexico who had scheduled appointments to enter the U.S. Many were left stranded, with their plans abruptly canceled, leading to emotional reactions and uncertainty about their futures.

In his inaugural address, President Trump declared a national emergency at the southern border, announced the deployment of troops, and labeled certain gangs as terrorist organizations. He also plans to sign an executive order against birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants and resume mass deportations by ICE.

The shutdown of the CBP One app marks a significant shift in U.S. immigration policy, reflecting the administration’s commitment to stricter border control measures.
