On April 9, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order reversing federal regulations that limited water flow in showerheads, a move aimed at “making America’s showers great again.” This action targets efficiency standards implemented during the Obama and Biden administrations, which restricted showerhead water output to 2.5 gallons per minute across all nozzles. Trump’s order reverts to the 1992 standard, allowing each nozzle to emit up to 2.5 gallons per minute, effectively increasing overall water flow.

The president emphasized that previous regulations negatively impacted daily life, particularly citing difficulties in maintaining his hairstyle due to reduced water pressure. He stated, “I like to take a nice shower to take care of my beautiful hair. I have to stand under the shower for 15 minutes until it gets wet. It comes out drip, drip, drip. It’s ridiculous.” ​

The White House framed this move as part of a broader agenda to dismantle what it describes as burdensome regulations, asserting that Americans should have the freedom to choose their household appliances without government interference.
