In recent developments, President Donald Trump has granted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu considerable autonomy regarding decisions on the ceasefire with Hamas. This stance was evident when President Trump issued an ultimatum on February 10, 2025, demanding that Hamas release all hostages by noon on February 15.
He stated that if this condition was not met, he would advocate for the cancellation of the ceasefire, allowing Israel to resume military operations. However, he also emphasized that Israel had the discretion to override his advice, effectively giving Netanyahu the latitude to determine the course of action.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has responded assertively, warning that if Hamas does not release the hostages by the specified deadline, “the ceasefire will end, and the IDF will resume intense combat.”
