U.S. Attorney General Defends Trump’s Deportation Flights

Pamela Bondi Stands by Trump’s Deportation Policy

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has defended the Trump administration’s recent deportation flights, asserting that the actions were legally justified despite ongoing legal challenges. Speaking at a press conference, Bondi stated that the administration had acted within its legal boundaries when it refused to recall two deportation flights last month, despite a judge’s order halting the removals. She remarked, “I don’t think anyone defied an order by a judge.” Bondi anticipates that the legal dispute will progress to the Supreme Court and expressed confidence in a favorable ruling.

The controversy centers around the administration’s use of the Alien Enemies Act to deport alleged members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua. In March 2025, Judge James Boasberg issued a verbal order blocking the deportations, directing that the flights be returned to the United States immediately. However, the administration proceeded with the deportations, arguing that the judge’s oral directive lacked enforceability without a written order. Bondi supported this stance, labeling the judge’s order as an “intrusion on the president’s authority.”

This situation has intensified discussions about the separation of powers and the limits of executive authority. Critics argue that bypassing judicial orders undermines the checks and balances integral to the U.S. legal system. The administration’s actions have prompted debates over the appropriate application of the Alien Enemies Act and the potential overreach of executive power.
