On March 11, 2025, Ukraine’s air force reported successfully intercepting a Russian Iskander-M ballistic missile and 79 drones during a widespread assault targeting various regions across the country. The attacks resulted in a fuel storage facility fire in Odesa, damage to a private residence, and injuries to civilians in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions.
Concurrently, Ukraine launched its largest drone offensive against Russia, deploying 337 drones, with 91 targeting Moscow. Russian authorities reported two fatalities and 18 injuries due to the assault, marking a significant escalation in the conflict.
These military actions unfolded as U.S. and Ukrainian officials convened in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for critical peace negotiations. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized the necessity for both Ukraine and Russia to make concessions, stating that there is “no military solution” to the conflict.
During the talks, Ukraine agreed to a U.S.-proposed 30-day interim ceasefire, contingent upon Russia’s acceptance, and the U.S. committed to resuming military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine.
The simultaneous escalation of drone warfare and diplomatic efforts underscores the complex dynamics at play as stakeholders strive for a sustainable resolution to the ongoing conflict.
