Ukrainian forces have launched a counteroffensive in Russia’s Kursk region, asserting that Russia is “getting what it deserves.” This action follows a surprise Ukrainian incursion in August, leading to ongoing clashes.
Ukrainian officials report heavy fighting near Berdin and the Sudzha district, with Russian reinforcements, including North Korean troops, involved. The U.S. estimates that over 1,000 North Korean soldiers were killed in late December alone, used as expendable forces in frontal assaults.
In response, Russia’s Defense Ministry claims to have repelled assaults involving Ukrainian tanks and armored vehicles.
Meanwhile, Ukraine alleges that Russian forces are systematically destroying villages in preparation for further assaults.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Russia lost an entire battalion, including North Korean soldiers, near Makhnovka.
