The U.S. Department of State has announced a reward of up to $15 million for information leading to the disruption of a network involving four Chinese nationals accused of illegally exporting U.S. technology to Iran. The individuals are:
According to the State Department, since at least 2007, these individuals have used front companies in China to procure U.S. electronic components, which were then supplied to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The components are believed to have been used in the production of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), ballistic missile systems, and other military applications.
The IRGC has been designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the United States and has been implicated in supporting militant groups across the Middle East. The State Department’s Rewards for Justice Program aims to disrupt the IRGC’s financial and procurement networks by offering monetary incentives for information leading to the arrest or conviction of those involved.
Federal charges against Liu and her associates were announced in January 2024, including conspiracy to violate export control laws. The individuals are believed to have ties to or may visit China and Iran.
This reward underscores the U.S. government’s commitment to preventing the illicit export of sensitive technologies that could enhance the military capabilities of sanctioned entities. The State Department encourages anyone with relevant information to come forward, emphasizing that such actions are vital to safeguarding national and global security.
