In Benin City, Edo State, a local vigilante member has been arrested for allegedly killing an artisan, Lasan Osaze Erhabor, and setting his body ablaze. The incident occurred between the night of February 21 and the early hours of February 22, 2025.
Reports indicate that Erhabor and a friend were returning home late when they were confronted by the vigilante near a sawmill. The suspect accused Erhabor of theft and, during the confrontation, allegedly shot him with a double-barrel gun. The vigilante then reportedly dragged Erhabor’s body into the sawmill, covered it with sawdust, and set it on fire.
The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and stated that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. The suspect is expected to be charged with murder upon the conclusion of the investigation.
