On May 5, 2025, a significant protest erupted in Abuja as supporters of social critic Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), demanded his immediate release. VDM was reportedly arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, May 2.

The arrest has sparked widespread outrage, leading to demonstrations both within Nigeria and internationally. Protesters gathered in front of the EFCC office in Abuja, chanting slogans and displaying placards calling for VDM’s freedom.

The movement has gained momentum on social media, with hashtags like #FreeVeryDarkMan trending across various platforms. Notably, prominent figures such as musician Davido and politician Peter Obi have expressed their support for VDM, further amplifying the call for his release. (Linda Ikeji’s Blog)
