Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, recently urged Nigerians to pay their taxes, emphasizing that the government needs revenue to fund essential projects and provide public services.
In his statement, Wike highlighted the importance of tax compliance in ensuring the successful execution of infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and other sectors critical to the nation’s growth.
Wike stressed that for the government to achieve its objectives and improve the quality of life for its citizens, there must be sufficient funds, and paying taxes is one of the key ways citizens can contribute.
He also pointed out that improved tax compliance would help reduce the country’s reliance on borrowing and provide more resources for tackling pressing economic challenges.
Wike’s call reflects ongoing efforts by the government to boost internally generated revenue, particularly as Nigeria faces economic pressures such as high inflation and the need to diversify its income sources beyond oil.
