Yahaya Bello Arraignment Delayed: EFCC’s Absence Sparks Controversy

Legal Drama: EFCC’s No-Show in Yahaya Bello’s Planned Court Appearance

The EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) has been facing challenges in bringing former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to court for arraignment on money laundering charges.

Despite efforts to have him appear in court, Bello has not yet been successfully presented before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

His case, which involves allegations of diverting over N80 billion from the state government during his tenure, has been delayed multiple times, with six previous attempts to arraign him being stalled.

The situation was further complicated by a dramatic attempt by Bello to surrender to the EFCC on September 18, 2024, accompanied by Kogi’s current governor.

However, after a confrontation at the EFCC headquarters, which reportedly led to a shootout, Bello managed to escape.
