On March 29, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in Zaina, near Angwar Hakimi, Orozo, within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. John Johnson, a young Igala graduate, was brutally killed by suspected herdsmen during a Boys’ Brigade camping event.
The Boys’ Brigade had organized a camp in Zaina. Due to an impending rainstorm, the group relocated to a nearby church for shelter. Later, two leaders returned to the original campsite to retrieve belongings. During this time, they were ambushed by individuals believed to be herdsmen. One leader managed to escape, while John Johnson was tragically killed.
The Chief of Igala in Orozo, Amadu Zachariah, confirmed the incident and expressed concern over the lack of arrests. He noted that upon investigation, it was discovered that the suspected herdsmen had vacated the area. Local Fulani leaders have pledged to assist authorities in identifying the perpetrators, but no arrests have been made thus far.
The Fortress Ministry in Abuja released a statement mourning Johnson’s death, describing him as a martyr who remained steadfast in his faith. The ministry called for prayers for his grieving family during this difficult time.
