Lagos and Oyo Youths Stage Protests Against Police Warnings, police fire tear gas during protest in Abuja and Rivers State

On April 7, 2025, young demonstrators affiliated with the Take-It-Back Movement defied police warnings and staged protests in multiple Nigerian states, including Lagos, Oyo, Rivers, and Abuja.

In Lagos, protesters, identifiable by their signature orange berets, commenced their rally at the Ikeja Under Bridge, marching through major roads while chanting solidarity songs. Police officers were present to monitor the procession.

In Oyo State, specifically in Ibadan, the state capital, demonstrators conducted their protest peacefully. Security officials were stationed nearby to maintain order.

Conversely, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the situation escalated when police officers fired teargas at protesters gathered at Isaac Boro Park. The demonstrators, also members of the Take-It-Back Movement, faced a heavy police presence from early morning.

The protests were organized to address grievances related to economic issues, political unrest, and the recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

Prior to these events, the Nigeria Police Force had issued statements urging the Take-It-Back Movement to cancel the planned protests, citing concerns over timing and potential unrest. Despite these warnings, the movement proceeded with their demonstrations.
