Zimbabwe’s President on Trump’s Deportation Decision

Deportation and Justice: Zimbabwe’s Current Affairs

Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has publicly endorsed U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to deport undocumented Zimbabwean nationals residing in the United States. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Mnangagwa expressed support for the repatriation of these individuals, stating:

“The Government of Zimbabwe supports the United States Government’s decision to repatriate and return our Zimbabwean citizens who may have been residing in the US illegally.”

This endorsement comes as the U.S. intensifies its crackdown on illegal immigration. According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), approximately 545 Zimbabweans are among the 1,445,549 non-citizens slated for removal.

Mnangagwa’s support for the deportations has elicited mixed reactions. Some citizens have expressed concern over the potential challenges these returnees may face upon reintegration into Zimbabwean society. Critics argue that the government’s endorsement lacks empathy for the plight of its nationals abroad.

This is not the first instance of Zimbabwean nationals facing deportation from Western countries. In recent years, the United Kingdom has also repatriated Zimbabweans found to be residing illegally or overstaying their visas.
