A 20-year-old woman has been arrested by the Borno State Police Command for allegedly stabbing a pregnant woman in Maiduguri. The incident reportedly occurred in the Njentilo area of the city, where the suspect, identified as Halima Ali Maina, attacked a five-month-pregnant woman named Aisha Musa.
According to police reports, the assault happened around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2025. Halima allegedly entered Aisha’s residence without permission and used a knife to inflict multiple stab wounds on the victim’s chest, back, stomach, and face. Neighbors who heard the victim’s cries rushed to the scene and quickly took her to Umaru Shehu Ultra-Modern Hospital. Doctors confirmed that Aisha is receiving treatment and responding well to medical care.
Police officers who arrived at the scene recovered the weapon used in the attack. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for deeper investigation. Authorities are looking into possible motives behind the assault and whether the suspect acted alone or as part of a wider conflict.
Residents of the Njentilo area have expressed shock over the violent act, describing it as disturbing and unprovoked. They called for stricter security measures in residential communities and urged the police to ensure that justice is served.
The Borno State Police Command has assured the public that the suspect will be charged in court once investigations are concluded. The police also warned that acts of violence, particularly those targeting women and vulnerable individuals, will not be tolerated.
